Countdown to surgery

August is shaping up to a be a full month for our little family, ending in what we hope will be Silas’s surgery to receive his cochlear implant. We haven’t yet heard the final word from insurance so it all still feels a bit unstable, but we’re proceeding as if it’s settled and making necessary plans. Two of the boys’ aunties are flying in to care for Toby and Milo. From there Josh and I will drive to San Francisco a day early to get settled and get our game-faces on for the next morning.

The big boys will have started school a week before, so our prayer is for Silas to have a smooth transition INTO kindergarten and then BACK into kindergarten once he’s recovered at home for a week. He will also have one hearing ear for several weeks until we return to our audiologist to receive his external processor and get his ear “turned on.”

It’s only been a year since we discovered Silas’s hearing loss, so this has felt so fast, but we’re also eager to be at this point of his hearing journey.
